Galaxy S6/S6 edge Marshmallow beta not compatible with Gear VR

http://www1.avatar.simple-systems.pl/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/samsung-gear-vr-300x300.jpg

The Marshmallow beta for the Samsung Galaxy S6/S6 edge is not compatible with the company's Gear VR headset. The Galaxy Beta Program app clearly mentions this, but claims that the headset will work fine with the official Android 6.0 update.

This came into light shortly after the firmware started rolling out in the UK, so this is bad news for Gear VR owners who have already installed the update on their compatible smartphone. The update was first launched by the company in its home country of South Korea.

For those who aren't already aware, the Galaxy S6 Marshmallow beta program is aimed at improving the quality of the upcoming firmware updates, based on the user feedback from those participating in the program.

Moto G (3rd gen) starts receiving Android 6.0 Marshmallow update

Following the rollouts for the Moto X Style, Moto X Pure Edition, Moto X Play, and Moto X (2nd gen), Motorola has started pushing out the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the Moto G (3rd gen).
This iteration of the company's best selling smartphone ever was launched in July, and as is usual for the G line it pairs a decent price with decent specs.

The update is rolling out over-the-air in the US and Canada, currently only for handsets purchased unlocked and SIM-free. That said, the Marshmallow release is bound to spread to other versions of the 3rd gen Moto G soon.

If you own a Moto G (3rd gen) and get the update notification, you are apparently looking at a 2GB download, so it's probably best if you grab it via Wi-Fi. After applying it, you'll be on software version 24.11.25.en.US.

The update incorporates Google's security patches created up to December 1, and it obviously contains everything that's new in Android 6.0, including Now On Tap and the revamped permissions system. As previously announced, Motorola is also removing its Migrate and Assist apps in this version.

LG sells 450,000 V10 units in North America in 45 days

LG is announcing that it's managed to sell 450,000 V10 units in North America in 45 days from the handset's release over there. That means an average of 10,000 units have been purchased in North America every day. Needless to say, LG is proud of this achievement.

The company goes on to boast that its US market share for phones with screens measuring 5.7" or larger has increased in November from 26.7% to 35.7%, something that apparently happened thanks to the V10's success.

Speaking of which, the smartphone is reportedly most popular with young American consumers, but also white collar workers in big cities, who have all bought a lot of V10s.

Merry Christmas To ONE AND ALL !!! ;-)

HTC One X9 goes official

http://www.mwnews.am/NewsImages/7344/HTC-One-X9.jpg

The HTC One X9 has finally gone official in China. The phone is priced at 2399 yuan ($370) and will go on sale soon.

The One X9 is the more premium version of the A9 launched earlier this year. It has a 5.5-inch 1080p display flanked on either sound by HTC's BoomSound speakers, the latter being conspicuously absent on the A9. Inside there is the MediaTek Helio X10 processor with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. There is a 13 megapixel camera with OIS and 4K video on the back and UltraPixel camera on the front. The phone is powered by a 3000mAh battery.

The version of Android is not yet known but it's likely Marshmallow considering the A9 launched with Marshmallow out of the box. Oddly enough, even though the X9 seems like an upgrade in nearly every count over the A9, it lacks the fingerprint sensor found on the A9. That aside, this is definitely the better option for anyone who found the A9 a bit underwhelming. Hopefully, it is released in other markets soon.

Alleged Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Plus cases leak online

Just over a couple of weeks after we brought you exclusive Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Plus renders, images showing protective covers for the yet-to-be announced flagship smartphones have leaked online.

The images reveal things like a rectangular home button, a bulging out rear camera unit, volume buttons on the left, and power button on the right. A quick comparison reveals that all this is inline with what the renders had revealed.

The Galaxy S7 Plus case (shown above) suggests a design similar to the S7, although it does indicate a huge display - the Plus variant is expected to be a 6.0-inch device. Micro USB and headphone ports, as well as speaker grill are all at the bottom of the devices.

For those who aren't already aware, aside from the Galaxy S7 and S7 Plus, the flagship is said to have two more variants: the S7 edge, and S7 edge Plus.

Xiaomi Mi 5 is portrayed in a new set of leaked renders, specs outed too

http://xiaomi-mi5.info/images/Xiaomi-Company-Mi-Logo-300x300.png

A couple of newly leaked renders out of China claim to portray the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 5. These are said to be unofficial, but based on the design of the real thing - which was briefly used by the creator of the pictures.
As you can see, the image of the front of the device shows an incredibly small Home button - which is there in order to house a fingerprint scanner.

According to the source of the pictures, the Mi 5 will in fact sport the world's smallest such sensor, and also the fastest. The rest of the design is unmistakably Xiaomi. And as the render to the right can attest, we're going to be treated to a metal frame for the Mi 5. On the front we can discern 2.5D glass on top of the display panel, while the back is said to feature even more curved "3D" glass. The smartphone will have a USB Type-C port.

One important thing to note is that the product depicted in these shots looks nothing like the one in the previous leak supposedly showing the Mi 5 (or the one before that). So clearly one of the leaks is wrong, there's just no telling which one at this point.

The Mi 5 will allegedly be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 chipset, which is something that's been claimed in many previous rumors about the device. The handset is apparently going to feature a 5.2-inch touchscreen with 1080p or QHD resolution, a 16 MP rear camera, a 13 MP selfie snapper, dual-SIM functionality, and a 3,600 mAh battery. It will run Android 6.0 Marshmallow underneath MIUI 7.

It will be offered in two versions. If you choose 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, you'll need to pay CNY 1,999 ($308 or €283 at the current exchange rates). If, on the other hand, you go for 4GB of RAM paired with 64GB of storage, the price rises to CNY 2,299 ($354, €326).

Samsung Galaxy A9 is official with a 6-inch screen and 4,000mAh battery

The Samsung Galaxy A9 has been officially announced in China. Hardly anything about it is a surprise by now, as the smartphone has starred in more than its fair share of leaks.

The Galaxy A9 sits on top Samsung's premium-built A-series and is positioned right where midrange meets flagship. The design is the newly adopted glass and metal affair, and this 6-incher features a FullHD AMOLED panel. Side bezels are minimal and Samsung is overly specific about their 2.74mm width.

The recently renamed Snapdragon 652 (which used to be S620) is in charge of computing, and is paired with ample 3GB of RAM. Internal storage is 32GB and, unlike the company's true flagships, it is expandable.

Imaging department is represented by a 13MP primary camera with a wide f/1.9 aperture and optical image stabilization. On the front there's an 8MP snapper behind an equally bright lens.

The Galaxy A9 comes with a battery well befitting its display size, and the 4,000mAh capacity can be topped up in a flash thanks to the QuickCharge support. There's a fingerprint sensor inside the home button, complete with Samsung Pay support.

The smartphone comes with an extensive connectivity package including Wi-Fi a/b/g/n (but sadly, no ac). Bluetooth is v4.1, there's GPS/Beidou for positioning and NFC too. A minor bummer is that the smartphone launches on Android 5.1 Lollipop, which is halfway out the door already, and certainly not a welcome sight on a newly announced premium handset.

Pricing and availability remain to be detailed.

Android 6.0 beta seeding to Galaxy S6 and S6 edge in the UK

What do you know - the Marshmallow beta for the Samsung Galaxy S6/S6 edge that was supposed to be exclusive to South Korea, has started rolling out in the UK as well. The TouchWiz-zed Android 6.0 firmware comes in the form of a 1.2GB download and brings quite a few changes.

The RAW image capture, which was rumored for previous updates is now finally a reality, as well as the option to manually select a shutter speed. Adding apps to a folder is now possible from within the folder and lockscreen shortcuts are no longer limited to camera and dialer and can now be customized.

The power menu has changed from the small pop-up window it used to be for ages to a row of icons on a blurred background. And now that we've mentioned power, the update brings back the option to disable fast charging, if you're particularly concerned about your battery's health.

A redesign of the notification shade marks the departure from Lollipop, much like the blue/green combo introduced us to it. The new color scheme was featured in an earlier Samsung Marshmallow leak, and people seemed to believe it was fake on those grounds alone - well, apparently it's the real deal.

Certainly, those are cosmetic changes, and there's a lot going on under the hood as well. The initial information was that beta testing will last until January 18 and from then on the waiting game begins for the official rollout.

New leak suggests LG G5 will feature dual rear camera setup

http://www.nezamancikacak.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/2016-LG-G5-300x300.jpg

LG's upcoming G5 flagship smartphone, which has been the subject of some rumors and leaks until now, will come with a dual camera set-up (16MP + 8MP) at the back. This was revealed in a new leak, which came courtesy of a Reddit user who also shared the following image that apparently shows the device's body partially obscured by a black box.

A number of other specs were also revealed, including 5.3-inch Quad HD display, SD820 SoC with 3GB RAM, 8MP front camera, as well as a SIM and microSD slot. In addition, the leakster said that the device will also have a color spectrum and a heart rate sensor fitted in the camera assembly, as well as a fingerprint sensor embedded in the power button.

Other features that were revealed include a USB-C port, bottom firing speaker, as well as IR blaster on top. There was no word on the launch time frame though - recent reports have suggested that will happen in February.

Mediatek Helio X20 posts record scores on GeekBench

Next-years crop of flagship chipsets has been undergoing some vigorous testing over the past couple of months, and aside from the occasional leak, we've also been treated to credible benchmark results of the Snapdragon 820. Mediatek's high-end SoC Helio X20 (a.k.a. MT6797) hasn't been in the spotlight as much, but has just shown up on GeekBench posting some seriously good numbers.

The multi-score result north of the 7,000 mark is far and away the highest score we've seen posted by a mobile chipset and in an actual listing on the benchmark's website. The Tri-cluster 10-core CPU architecture of the SoC, consisting of 2 Cortex-A72 cores and double quad-core Cortex-A53 is responsible for the record-breaking figures.

However, a single Cortex-A72 isn't up to the standards of Apple's current Twister cores in the A9 chip, or Qualcomm's upcoming Kryo cores. The Helio X20's single-core performance is rated at a little over 2,000 units, while the above two can push upwards of 2,300-2,400.

All that said, a previous chipset comparison had next-year's Exynos 8890 posting a mind-blowing 7,400 points, while the Helio X20 was trailing at 6,500. So until all of these SoC's end up in production devices, which we can test, the above numbers are nothing but a general indication of the direction the industry is headed.

Huawei P9 rumored to be launched in March 2016

http://freevectorlogo.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/huawei-logo-vector-01.png

The Huawei P9 flagship - which has been the subject of only a few rumors thus far - is expected to be launched in the month of March next year, according to a latest rumor out of the company's home country of China.

 http://androidinfo.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Rumors-Huawei-P9-Specs-16MP-Camera-OIS-5.2-Display-and-Launch-Q3-2016.jpg
It's worth mentioning that the handset's predecessor - the Huawei P8 (shown above) - was launched in April this year, and the company has just released a flagship smartphone (the Mate 8), so the rumored March 2016 launch time frame for the P9 does make sense.

As for the specs, from what is known until now, the Huawei P9 will be powered by a Kirin 950 SoC and sport a 5.2-inch display. The smartphone will have 4GB of RAM, and feature a fingerprint sensor as well as a dual camera set-up on its back.

We all known that EFS partition holds the imei,sn ,wifi mac & other important data.
In Snapdragon the EFS partition are modemst1 ,modemst2 & FSG partitions. so it's important to take backup of these partitions.

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Connect your phone to PC , adb debugging enabled & goto adb shell by,
Code:
adb shell su
OR

Open terminal emulator app in your phone & take super user permissions, by

Code:
su

2. Type following commands to backup imei partitions.
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p16 of=/sdcard/mmcblk0p16_modemst1
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p17 of=/sdcard/mmcblk0p17_modemst2
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p20 of=/sdcard/mmcblk0p20_fsg

Also these are some important partition you should consider to backup.
modem, fsc, bk1, ddr.

Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p23 of=/sdcard/mmcblk0p23_modem
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p9 of=/sdcard/mmcblk0p9_DDR
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p12 of=/sdcard/mmcblk0p12_bk1
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 of=/sdcard/mmcblk0p18_fsc

Now the backup is stored in you internal storage ,store these files in safe place.
in case u get invalid imei or unknown, restore these partitions.

To restore these partitions

Code:
dd if=/sdcard/mmcblk0p16_modemst1 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p16
dd if=/sdcard/mmcblk0p17_modemst2 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p17
dd if=/sdcard/mmcblk0p20_fsg of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p20
dd if=/sdcard/mmcblk0p23_modem of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p23
dd if=/sdcard/mmcblk0p9_DDR of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p9
dd if=/sdcard/mmcblk0p12_bk1 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p12
dd if=/sdcard/mmcblk0p18_fsc of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18

NOTE: Don't use tools or commands from other device because different devices has different partition address, that will result in wrong backups.

To use this method to backup other phones EFS , u should find your partition info.
Redmi 1s Partition tables can be found HERE

Asus ZenFone 3 reportedly coming in May or June with fingerprint scanner

http://cdn.eglobalcentral.com/images/thumbnails/11/300/300/asus-ze550ml-mobile-3.jpg

Asus is already working on the ZenFone 3, according to some unnamed "Taiwan-based supply chain makers". However, don't expect the next generation ZenFone to be out anytime soon.

If these sources are to be believed, then the new iteration in the series will only launch in May or June. On the other hand, the wait might be worthwhile. That's because the ZenFone 3 is apparently going to be the first device in the line to sport a fingerprint scanner. This fact has already been confirmed by Asus CEO Jerry Shen back in March.

http://static.pricepony.com.my/blog/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/asus-zenfone-3-concept-1024x396-e1449077208619.jpg

So far we've seen fingerprint sensors in high-end phones as well as some mid-rangers, but in the future these are likely to become much more prevalent. Because of increased orders, the price of a fingerprint sensor could fall to $5 in 2016. That drop in costs is probably one of the reasons for its inclusion in the ZenFone 3. Fingerprint scanners are expected to be featured in 50% of smartphones in the future, up from around 30% nowadays.

Asus will allegedly ship 20 million devices in 2015, and will aim for at least 30 million next year. In 2016, the company will expand sales of its handsets to new markets in Asia and Africa, after having so far been quite successful in Taiwan, India, Brazil, Russia, and Southeast Asia.

iPhone 6s is now being sold for $1 with contract

http://www.clipartbest.com/cliparts/acq/bLd/acqbLdqKi.png

If you've been craving an iPhone 6s but haven't so far picked one up, Best Buy is now running a very good promo. Just in time for the holidays, you can buy a 16GB iPhone 6s model for only $1. You do however have to get it with a contract from either Verizon or Sprint.

Still, the on-contract price of this handset is normally $199, so this $198 price cut isn't something to take lightly. All four colors of the phone are available, and the deal is valid until Sunday both online and in-store. And if you trade-in an iPhone 5 or newer model when you buy the 6s, the retailer will even throw in a $200 gift card.

The iPhone 6 is also available for the same $1 price, but it's unclear why anyone would prefer it over its successor.

Huawei Mate 8 passes through FCC

http://www.appook.de/images/article/thumb/300-5315-huawei-mate-8.jpg

The Huawei Mate 8 was announced back in November for the Chinese market with promises for more details to come at CES. Today brings great new for US availability of the Mate 8 – the handset has already been certified by the FCC, which means its release on the US market is imminent and should follow shortly after the expo.

The documents in question don't really detail much about the hardware of the unit, bearing the model number NXT-L09, but we can only expect specs to match up with the already announced Chinese version.

Packing an in-house Kirin 950 SoC, with four high-power Cortex-A72 cores, clocked at up to 2.3 GHz and an additional four power-saving Cortex-A53 ones, working at 1.8 GHz, the Huawei Mate 8 also offers a Mali T880MP4 GPU, pushing pixels on a spacious 6.0-inch FHD IPS display.
Memory options include 3GB/32GB, 4GB/64GB, and 4GB/128GB variants. The camera setup consists of Sony's latest IMX298 16MP sensor at the back and an 8MP shooter on the front and a 4000 mAh battery is powering the show. The OEM's industry-leading fingerprint tech is also on board.

Samsung was the top smartphone vendor in the world in Q3 2015, followed by rival Apple, according to a latest report from research firm Digitimes Research. While the South Korean company captured 25.6% market share in the quarter, the iPhone maker's share stood at 14.5%.

Huawei, Lenovo, and LG, rounded up the top 5 with 7.4%, 4.8%, and 4.5% market share, respectively. China's Xiaomi came in at the sixth spot with 3.8% market share, while Sony and Microsoft were at number 11 and 12, with 2% and 1.7% share, respectively.

Of the top-15 smartphone vendors mentioned in the report, nine are from China, two each from the US and South Korea, and one from Japan and Taiwan.

Overall, a total of 331.9 million smartphones were shipped globally last quarter, which translates into an year-on-year increase of 7.7% and a q-o-q increase of 10.5%. The report also forecasted a shipment of 396.8 million units in Q4, which would the take total 2015 shipments number to 1.326 billion, an y-o-y increase of 10.1%.
