Android N is yet to be officially named later this year, but it was already detailed last month. It offers multi-window (split-screen) multitasking, improved Doze mode, better notification handling among others.

The Android N Developer Preview was seeded to Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, and Pixel C in early March. The Preview even saw its first firmware update in mid-March.
Surprisingly, Sony made the Android N Preview available to the Xperia Z3 model earlier today. If you own the D6603 or D6653 flavors of the Xperia Z3, then you can easily install and run Android N. Here is how:

• Connect your compatible Z3 device to a computer with a USB cable.
• Xperia Companion will open automatically.
• Make sure you have Xperia Companion version 1.1.24 or later. If not, download the latest version from here.
• Hold down the ALT key on your computer and click on Software repair on the home screen, then follow the guide.
• You’ll be asked to disconnect and turn off your device, then to reconnect whilst holding down the volume down key to start the software flashing.
• You can return to factory settings at any time by connecting back to Xperia Companion and following the Software repair.

The Android N Developer Preview lacks the Xperia launcher, so you should have that in mind before installing. Plus - it's recommended to install it only if you are a developer and know what you are doing. WHAT'S NEW

Samsung Semiconductor executives have held a special invite-only meet-up with potential new customers in Silicon Valley. The reason behind the event is the announcement of plans for a new and cheaper 14-nanometer manufacturing process.

Re/Code cited Kelvin Low, Samsung Semiconductor senior director, who also said that a second-gen 10-nanometer chipmaking technology will be operational later this year. The new 10nm process will offer 10% better performance than the one before it.


The battle for the top spot in the mobile semiconductor sector is heating up. TMSC is rumored to have the majority of orders from Apple to make the new A10 chip, but that might change if Samsung's plans for the second-generation 10-nanometer process become reality.

Samsung already managed to snatch the production of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 chip from TMSC.

The first render of the Xiaomi Max has been leaked.


The image shows a device with thin bezels, a hardware home button (which wasn't there in the front panel leak, and might house a fingerprint sensor), and volume and power buttons on the right side. Design-wise the phone looks quite similar to the Chinese company's Mi 5 flagship.

As for the specs, nothing much is known at the moment, except the rumored massive 6.4-inch screen size, QHD display, SD820 SoC, and a May launch.

According to a new rumor out of China, Sony will launch a new smartphone dubbed Xperia M Ultra. Specs-wise, the device is said to be powered by Snapdragon 652 chipset, and sport a 6-inch full HD display.

    The device will have 3GB RAM and 32GB internal memory, and pack in a large 4,280mAh battery. The camera department will be handled by a 23MP rear unit and a 16MP selfie shooter. It is also said to feature a USB Type-C port and a fingerprint sensor.

Aside from the the Xperia M Ultra, the Japanese company is also rumored to launch the successor to last year's Xperia C5 Ultra - allegedly dubbed Xperia C6 Ultra. Needless to say, none of this has been officially confirmed, so take it with a pinch of salt.

Now, the leakster has shared another image of the handset, and this time it shows off the complete front as well as back of the device.
The image reveals a square-shaped fingerprint sensor on the front, and a camera setup (including an apparent laser autofocus module) with vertical strip design on the back. Sadly, nothing else - including specs, pricing, and availability - is currently known about the device.
This comes just a few days after similar looking images alleged to be of the fourth-generation Moto G leaked online.

This February Sony bid farewell to its Z line of smartphones as it introduced the new Xperia X, Xperia X Performance, and Xperia XA. And now it seems like a new member will be added to the X family at some point in the near future.

We're talking about the Xperia X Premium, which according to a new rumor is going to be the successor to the Z5 Premium from last year. That particular device was the first smartphone to sport a display capable of showing 4K content, and if this report is accurate then the X Premium's main differentiator will be the screen too.


Namely, it's said to come with an HDR display, something that would be a first for the mobile world (but is becoming more and more widespread in TVs). This will allegedly mean it will be capable of displaying 1.07 billion colors, compared to the 16.8 million color depth of every other high-end device out there.

The Xperia X Premium is also apparently going to feature 120Hz refresh rate, 2,000:1 contrast ratio, and it will have the brightest display panel ever put into a phone. It will offer 1,000 nits of "white brightness" and could actually go up to a whopping 1,300 nits, which is more than twice as much as the 539 nits the Samsung Galaxy S7 can achieve.

The upcoming handset should be powered by the Snapdragon 820 chip from Qualcomm, aided by 3GB of RAM. It will have a USB Type-C connector. It is however unclear when it will launch.

According to IHS Technology's analyst Kevin Wang, Xiaomi has managed to sell 14.8 million smartphones in the first quarter of 2016. This number includes sales outside China as well.


For the same period last year, the company managed to ship roughly the same number of phones - 14.98 million. While it's certainly not the growth the company hoped for, it's not too shabby either. In 2015, Xiaomi sold 70 million units and didn't meet its own expectations of 80 million units.

Xiaomi started 2016 on a strong note with the Mi 5 and the Redmi 3 Pro. The 6.4" Xiaomi Max is also expected to be an interesting addition to the company's product lineup.

ZTE's sub-brand Nubia has a new member - the Nubia Z11 mini. The phone features a 5" screen (the term "mini" has grown) and has a strong focus on photography.

The main camera uses a 16MP Sony IMX298 sensor (same as Xiaomi Mi 5 and Huawei Mate 8). It's behind an f/2.0 lens and offers phase-detection autofocus and "3D noise reduction."

You get RAW DNG shooting mode and ISO that goes up to 12,800 (ZTE is promising no added noise, but we don't buy it). For video shooting, the camera maxes out at 1080p.

There's an 8MP selfie camera too, with large 1.4µm pixels and 80° lens (with a narrow aperture of f/2.4).

As for the rest of the Nubia Z11 mini, the phone has a metal frame and a 5" 1080p screen behind a 2.5D glass. It's powered by a Snapdragon 617 chipset (28nm, 8x Cortex-A53, Adreno 405) with 3GB of RAM and comes with an impressive 64GB storage. It runs an older Android 5.1 Lollipop and has a fingerprint reader on the back.


This is a dual-SIM phone with VoLTE support. It's powered by a 2,800mAh battery.

The Z11 mini is going on sale in China later this month and will be available through JD for CNY 1,500 ($230/€205).

After launching the first Snapdragon 820-powered smartphone a few months back, LeEco (formerly known as LeTV) has been busy working on its next top of the line device.

The handset could be called Le 2, Le 2 Pro, or even Le Max 2, the exact moniker unfortunately hasn't been conclusively leaked. And now it turns out that the Le 2 (let's call it that) will come in no less than three hardware versions.


One will sport 3GB of RAM, another will come with 4GB of memory, but the highest-end of them all will get a whopping 6GB of RAM. It's this model that has now been spotted in the GFXBench database, after someone performed a benchmark run on it.

The phone also has a 5.5-inch QHD touchscreen, a 21 MP rear camera (with 4K video capture), an 8 MP front-facing snapper (which can record QHD video), and 64GB of storage. It's powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 chipset, as you'd expect given the other specs here. The new LeEco smartphone runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

It's still unclear when LeEco will make this device official, but hopefully that's going to happen soon.
